Britpop legends, Blur, are following in the steps of Led Zeppelin and reuniting for a London concert in the summer of 2009. The show is scheduled for Hyde park on July 3rd 2009. The full band consisting of lead singer Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree will be together on the stage for the firs time in over eight years. Tickets for the event are priced at a staggering £45 and will go on sale at 9am on Friday through the concert promotor, Live nation.
The band had never really split up in the first place but sort of drifted apart amidst rumors of disagreements and arguments. However the band recently posted a group video on their website where the band were greeting each-other warmly and discussing their reunion in detail.
Since the band's hiatus lead singer, Damon Albarn has produced several concept pieces of work including the Japanese opera, Monkey. He has also produced one of the biggest dance bands ever with, Gorillaz with several number one hits. Damon Albarn said on the websites video that he was very excited to get back together with Blur once more and is looking forward to 'share a bit of happiness'.
There is no doubt that the band will rekindle their success. back in the 1990's they racked up four number one songs in the charts. In 1999 Coxon went solo and Albarn started the pop band, Gorillaz with Jamie Hewlett and James co-wrote songs for Sophie Ellis Bextor and Faithless. In 2002 the band got back together to make the album, Think Tank but during the production guitarist Coxon left the band. The remaining members promoted the album but no further albums were made.
Blur join a long list of other bands that have reunited recently including, The Police, genesis, Led Zeppelin and the Spice Girls have all reunited.
